Archimedes ActivitiesAn elective that allows First and Second grade students time to explore mathematical concepts through technology. Students use computer programs and iPad APPS to analyze and think critically about the strategies they use to solve puzzles and to explore geometry.
First, students explore Puzzle APPS and identify and discuss the strategies they used to successfully solve their puzzles. Students research Archimedes and study geometric concepts.
They research of Pythagoras – Pythagorean Theorem

1.G.1Distinguish between defining attributes (e.g., triangles are closed and three-sided) versus non-defining attributes (e.g., color, orientation, overall size) ; build and draw shapes to possess defining attributes.
1.G.2Compose two dimensional shapes (rectangles, squares, trapezoids, triangles, half circles, and quarter-circles) or three-dimensional shapes (cubes, right rectangular prisms, right circular cones, and right circular cylinders) to create a composite shape, and compose new shapes from the composite shape. 1. OA.6Add and subtract within 20, demonstrating fluency for addition and subtraction within 10. 1.OA.1Use addition and subtraction with 20 to solve word problems involving situation of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions, eg. by using objects, drawings, equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem. 1.OA.7Understand the meaning of the equal sign, and determine if equations involving addition and subtraction are true or false |
